TREND ONE: Yellow and Gray
Every showroom had at least one vignette in this hot color combination. Calm, cool gray tones were shocked to life by bright yellow accents. We found the push and pull of these colors very exciting, modern and fun.

TREND TWO: Pale Blue and Orange
More approachable to some homes than gray and yellow, pale blue and dark orange presented a different kind of yin and yang. Opposites on the color wheel, blue and orange tend to excite the eye. Contrasting tonal values add even more punch. We found this combination warm, inviting and appropriate for any season.

TREND THREE: The trim of the season is....Flange!
Move over fussy fringe and tassels. Clean and classic, simple and crisp, flange is trim made from fabric extending beyond the pillow or cushion seam. We saw it applied to pillows as well as full sofas - fat, skinny, single, double, and EVERYWHERE. This Taylor King pillow has it all with a blue and orange color scheme and double-flanged edges.

TREND FOUR: Painted Leather
Spotted in upper-end leather showrooms like Wesley Hall and Hancock & Moore, this trend adds extra custom detail to the most luxurious upholstery. From simple geometric designs, florals and city scenes to Native American drawings and symbols, we saw a full range of original designs. Each unique hide already makes these pieces one-of-a-kind, but with artisan detail like this, they can never be mistaken for something else.

TREND FIVE: Cerused Wood
Cerused is our favorite new finish, and perhaps our new favorite word! We were reintroduced to this light, rustic finish by two of our favorite style icons Lillian August and Bunny Williams, who both elevated the finish by mixing it with polished textures and finishes. Cerused wood is brushed with a wire brush to remove soft particles and create deeper grooves in the grains. A white wash is then applied, and when wiped away, the deep groves retain the lighter finish.
