When and how did you first know you were interested in Interior Design?
My mother let me decorate my room as a child and choose the paint color, bedding and art. She was very creative, so she taught me to arrange flowers, paint, and sew, as well as think outside the box. I really appreciate her encouragement. In college I majored in Art and minored in Clothing and Textiles because I really wanted to be a fashion designer. I then started my career in the fabric and fashion business. This gave me an extensive knowledge of fabrics which has been very beneficial designing draperies and bedding, which I love to sketch out and see come to fruition. Like a tapestry all the threads were woven intricately together into my life to become an interior designer. I love it! And when you love what you do, it doesn't seem like work. It's been a very rewarding career and I'm grateful.

Where were you before Chestnut Hall?
I had a loyal client base at Batte Furniture & Interiors in Jackson, MS, where I worked for 25 years. Like Chestnut Hall, it is a family owned and operated business that was the best in the area, so it was an easy transition to join the Best Furniture store in Memphis!

If you could only pass along one piece of advice about purchasing fine furniture to a Chestnut Hall customer, what would it be?
Please buy beautiful, classic case pieces for the master bedroom and dining room, because you will have these pieces for many years. Furniture for these rooms needs to stand the test of time. For my traditional clients, I always say, "if it's been around since the 18th century then it's not going out of style." But even with transitional pieces, if they are quality and have good lines and especially if you love them...well, go for it, because good taste never goes out of style!

If you could only pass along one piece of design advice to a Chestnut Hall customer, what would it be?
Think big when it comes to accessories. Do something important that makes a statement instead of bunch of small things.

When you are designing with a client on a budget, what piece would suggest they splurge on and which to save on?
I would say spend more money on what you sit in because you will be miserable or end up spending more money later to replace it. You can save money on pillows, lamps, & accessories because those are thing you can change more often.

What is your favorite coffee table book?
My favorite is a beautiful book I bought in Jerusalem on a trip to the Holy Land in 2014.

What do you enjoy most about being a Memphian?
I am loving Memphis! I moved here to be near my 2 daughters and my 4 grandsons. I love my church, Collierville First Baptist, and going to a fabulous place to work, so God is good and I feel blessed!
